The Very Funky Caterpillar

Here's a riddle for you: what's yellow, furry, and crawling up my leg?

Best I can determine from this site is that it's an acronicta aceris (#6), which is "generally common in England, Wales and parts of Ireland." And Washington Heights, apparently.

Reuven, I think I speak for your entire readership when I say "Eww! Ewwwwww!"

It was actually kind of cool, though a bit surprising. I was standing outside my apartment building when I saw this three-inch yellow thing moving up my leg. (Fortunately, I happened to have my camera with me.) I tried shaking him off, but his grip was too strong. I tried picking him up by those longer hairs towards his end (the orange side is his head; or he was walking backwards) but they just came out. Eventually I resorted to brute force - a flick into the bushes.
