Always The Last To Know

I'd noticed a bit of a numb feeling in my, well, sort of all over. Now I finally know why:

In what may be the first trial of its kind in the nation, prosecutors have accused the pickup truck's driver of second-degree murder for watching a movie instead of the road when he crashed head-on into the Jeep.

. . .

[Erwin] Petterson, 29, is accused of killing Robert Weiser, 60, and his wife Donna Weiser, 56, of Anchorage, while on a three-hour drive between Kenai and Anchorage. In his truck was the equivalent of a home entertainment system -- a DVD player, speakers and a Sony PlayStation 2.

For those who don't get it, my English name is Robert.

Thanks for pointing out my demise, Josh!

i think he should be convicted of murder and sentenced to death. my husband lost his aunt and uncle in a blink of an eye because of men like that who only care about convience and themselves. he rigged his dvd player to go on when he started his truck.if it had been professionally installed. they may still be alive. when professionaly installed it would of only gone on when his truck was in park. there should be a law perhaps the" weiser" law that prohibits anyone installing a personal dvd playeror purchasing the automobile and truck ones withouthaving it installed by a professional following the laws.tobi meyers they were my family too.

I don't think anyone would defend what this guy did (except his lawyer). But I wonder whether the death sentence is ever imposed when the crime was done without specific intent. (Not sure if that's the legal term for what I mean, but in this case, Petterson didn't intend to kill anyone. He just did something that was atrociously negligent.)
